Compute where the data is born
EMDC is a micro data center: servers, switches, storage and cooling in one box. Hang one on a wall or fill a rack with them.
RackStack it in the rack
Three units fill one 4U insert in a 19" rack. Each unit runs its own cluster. HIRO's Intelligent Orchestration platform joins the units on one site and the sites with each other.
WallOr mount it on a wall
For places with no room for a server rack: an office, a shop floor, a substation. It is the same unit as in the rack.
Every slot is an open standard
No vendor lock-in: use COM-HPC modules, OCP NIC 3.0 cards and EDSFF drives from any vendor that suits you.
- Compute modulesPICMG COM-HPC, 150 to 300 W, up to eight per unit; x86 CPUs, Nvidia GPU SoCs, AMD Versal FPGAs or CXL memory. The prototype also runs Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin modules.
- Network cardsOCP NIC 3.0
- Management moduleOCP DC-SCM 2.1, openBMC firmware with Redfish
- Flash storageEDSFF E1.S
- CXL memoryEDSFF E3.S
- FabricPCIe Gen5 and CXL
- Liquid cooling · optionalTwo pipes at the rear connect to the building's chilled-water or HVAC loop. With liquid cooling the unit needs no fans, and the heat can go into the building's heating loop.
- Air cooling · optionalFans at the rear pull air in through the front grille and out through the rear grille.
Working prototype, built in the EU project CAPE
EMDC is an active prototype, built in the EU project CAPE with Fraunhofer and Universität Bielefeld. You buy the units and the modules. HIRO supplies the Intelligent Orchestration platform and a service contract.
